When Coraline Jones moves into an old, rambling flat with her preoccupied parents, she spends her time exploring the overgrown grounds and eccentric neighbors. Boredom leads her to a small, mysterious door in the drawing-room that was previously bricked up. One day, she unlocks it and discovers a hidden passageway leading to an alternative apartment strangely similar to her own, but arguably better. In this parallel world, the food is delicious and her attentive other mother and other father are eager to pamper her. However, this marvelous facade soon cracks when Coraline realizes her Other Mother wants her to stay forever, surrender her eyes for sewn buttons, and join her collection of lost souls. To save her real parents and herself, Coraline must gather all her courage, intelligence, and a cynical black cat to escape a nightmarish web of dark enchantments.
