الوصف

David Copperfield loses his father before he’s born and his mother to a second marriage that puts him under the thumb of the cruel Mr. Murdstone, and Charles Dickens follows him through poverty, factory work, and a bottom-rung law apprenticeship on the way to becoming, eventually, a writer. The novel is Dickens’s most openly autobiographical, drawing on his own childhood labor in a factory and his father’s time in debtors’ prison, and it introduced two of his most enduring supporting characters: the perpetually broke, endlessly hopeful Mr. Micawber, and the oily social climber Uriah Heep.
