Description
The Libyan Pharaohs of Egypt: Their Lives and Afterlives offers a comprehensive and engaging exploration of the period in ancient Egyptian history when rulers of Libyan ancestry governed the country—from the tenth to the seventh centuries BC. Rather than depicting this era as the result of conquest, the book explains how Libyan names began appearing in Egyptian elite circles and eventually led to Libyan-descended pharaohs ascending the throne through gradual integration and intermarriage. The narrative covers not only political history and warfare but also cultural dynamics, decentralization of power, civil conflict, and the interaction between Libyan rulers and Egyptian traditions.
