Description
Nazik al-Malaʾika, an influential Iraqi poet and a pioneer of free verse poetry in the Arab world, is featured in this bilingual collection, presenting her work in English translation for the first time. The book offers an overview of her four-decade career, tracing her artistic evolution from a romantic poet in the 1940s to a committed Arab nationalist in the 1970s and 1980s. The collection provides insights into the political and social landscape of the Arab world in the post-WWII era and highlights how al-Malaʾika transformed modern Arabic literature
