Description
In Persepolis 2, the sequel to Satrapi’s world-renowned graphic memoir, we follow Marjane as she leaves her war-torn homeland of Iran at age fourteen. Sent by her parents to Vienna to escape the restrictive regime and the dangers of the Iran-Iraq war, she must navigate the complexities of European adolescence as an outsider.
The book poignantly captures her struggle with identity, racism, and loneliness in a foreign land. Eventually, Marjane returns to Tehran, only to find herself a stranger in her own country, facing a “home” that has changed as much as she has. It is a powerful exploration of the search for self, the pain of exile, and the resilience of the human spirit, told through stark, expressive black-and-white comic art.
