الوصف

Orhan Pamuk sets his novel among the court miniaturists of sixteenth-century Istanbul, where the Sultan has secretly commissioned a book illustrated in the European style — a commission that violates centuries of tradition around how painting is supposed to represent the world, and gets one of the miniaturists killed over it. Pamuk tells the murder mystery through a rotating cast of narrators, including, in one chapter, the corpse itself, turning a whodunit into an argument about art, faith, and what it costs an artist to paint in a way his own tradition considers heresy.
