Roger Hargreaves

British author and illustrator of Mr. Men and Little Miss

A round yellow smile, impossibly long arms or a name that announces a character's greatest weakness: Roger Hargreaves built his stories around instantly recognisable personalities. His Mr. Men and Little Miss books combine simple drawings, visual jokes and short adventures that turn everyday habits into comic situations. Born in Yorkshire in 1935, he worked in advertising before creating the characters that became his best-known work. Mr. Tickle, Mr. Happy and Little Miss Sunshine offer different ways into that world. Hargreaves died in 1988; his son Adam later continued writing and illustrating books in the series.
