Rick Riordan

American fantasy author of modern mythological adventures and Percy Jackson

Witty dialogue, fast-paced quest narratives and ancient pantheons thriving in modern cities define Rick Riordan’s mythological adventures. Born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1964, Riordan taught middle school English and history for fifteen years before penning The Lightning Thief in 2005, inspired by bedtime stories told to his son. The resulting Percy Jackson and the Olympians saga reimagines Greek mythology through adolescent demigods dealing with dyslexia, ADHD and monstrous threats across America. Riordan has expanded into Egyptian mythology with The Kane Chronicles and Norse legends with Magnus Chase. He won the Edgar Award in 1998 for his early mystery fiction. Readers can begin exploring Camp Half-Blood with The Lightning Thief.
