Matt Oldfield

British children's author of football stories and biographies

Matt Oldfield writes for children who want to follow football beyond the final whistle. With his brother Tom, he has written Ultimate Football Heroes and Classic Football Heroes, turning players' careers into accessible biographical stories. His Unbelievable Football books explore unusual and memorable events from the sport, while Football Spy brings football into fictional adventures. Oldfield also runs football-based literacy workshops with schools and organisations. His work connects an existing interest in the game with the pleasures of reading, and Unbelievable Football won Children's Sports Book of the Year in 2020.
