Mary Pope Osborne

American author of the Magic Tree House series

For Mary Pope Osborne, a tree house can be the starting point for a journey into another time or place. Her Magic Tree House stories follow Jack and Annie through adventures that bring history, animals and unfamiliar settings into accessible chapter books. Born in 1949, Osborne wrote picture books, novels and retellings before the series began in 1992. Dinosaurs Before Dark introduces its travelling siblings, while the Merlin Missions extend their adventures into longer fantasy stories. Nonfiction companion books, developed with collaborators including Natalie Pope Boyce, give curious readers another route into the subjects behind the fiction.
