Karen M. McManus

American author of high school murder mysteries and deceitful teenage alliances

Detention room murders, anonymous gossip apps and high school cliques hiding dangerous secrets drive the suspense fiction of Karen M. McManus. Raised in Massachusetts, McManus earned a master's degree in journalism from Northeastern University before turning to young adult thrillers. Her debut novel One of Us Is Lying revitalized the YA murder mystery by placing five contrasting students into detention, only for one to end up dead and the other four to become suspects. The sequel One of Us Is Next and standalone mysteries like Two Can Keep a Secret and Such Charming Liars showcase her ability to pace multi-perspective investigations with deceptive red herrings. Readers who enjoy teen murder mysteries should start with One of Us Is Lying.
