John Grisham

American legal thriller master, former attorney and chronicler of courtrooms

High-stakes courtroom maneuvering, corporate corruption and individual crusaders fighting legal hierarchies shape the suspense thrillers of John Grisham. Born in Arkansas in 1955, Grisham practiced criminal and civil trial law for a decade in Mississippi and served in the state legislature before turning his courtroom experiences into fiction. His breakout novel The Firm established the modern legal thriller genre, followed by enduring classics like A Time to Kill and The Pelican Brief. Grisham's later works, including The Judge’s List, The Reckoning and The Exchange, continue to explore legal ethics, wrongful convictions and judicial power. Readers interested in fast-paced legal suspense can start with The Firm or A Time to Kill.
