Cassandra Clare

American urban fantasy author and creator of the Shadowhunter Chronicles

Gothic demon hunters, celestial rune magic and forbidden supernatural romances animate Cassandra Clare’s urban fantasy universe. Born Judith Rumelt in Tehran in 1973 to American parents, she worked as an entertainment journalist in New York before publishing City of Bones in 2007. Her extensive Shadowhunter Chronicles follows nephilim warriors protecting mundane humans from demons in a hidden subterranean society. Expanding across series like The Mortal Instruments, Victorian London prequel The Infernal Devices and The Last Hours, Clare blends fast-paced action with deep emotional bonds and diverse ensembles. Her City of Heavenly Fire won the Goodreads Choice Award for YA Fantasy in 2014. Readers usually begin with City of Bones or Clockwork Angel.
