Brandon Sanderson

American epic fantasy author and architect of the interconnected Cosmere universe

Rigorous, rule-based magic systems and sweeping, multi-planetary worldbuilding distinguish Brandon Sanderson’s epic fantasy fiction. Born in Nebraska in 1975, Sanderson established his interconnected universe, known as the Cosmere, with the Mistborn series, beginning with The Final Empire. His works emphasize intricate political maneuvering, tactical battle sequences and empathetic portrayals of characters living with doubt or mental fatigue. In The Way of Kings, the opening volume of The Stormlight Archive, he constructs a storm-swept world of colossal scale and ancient knightly orders. Sanderson received a Hugo Award in 2013 for his novella The Emperor's Soul. Newcomers often begin with Mistborn or his standalone fantasy adventure Tress of the Emerald Sea.
