Ann M. Martin

American author and creator of The Baby-Sitters Club

Friendship and the responsibilities of growing up sit at the centre of Ann M. Martin's best-known stories. Born in 1955, she created The Baby-Sitters Club, whose young characters balance their babysitting business with school, family and changing relationships. The world later expanded into spin-offs and graphic adaptations by other creators, so Martin's original stories now reach readers in several formats. Her work also includes independent novels such as A Corner of the Universe and Rain Reign. A Corner of the Universe received a Newbery Honor in 2003, recognising another side of her writing beyond the familiar club.
