الوصف

Tom is an enslaved man sold off a Kentucky farm and separated from his wife and children, and Harriet Beecher Stowe follows him through a series of owners, ending with the openly brutal Simon Legree. Published in 1852, the novel’s unflinching detail about what slavery actually did to families is credited with shifting Northern public opinion in the years leading up to the Civil War, and Stowe reportedly heard from Lincoln himself that the book had played a part in it. It remains one of the most consequential novels ever published in the United States, for exactly that reason.
