Description
Set in 1359, the story follows Zakaria, a young Muslim scholar in Fes who is forced to compromise his rigid moral code to serve an unjust sultan to provide for his family. Entangled in palace intrigue, he eventually joins the exiled king of Granada, Muhammad ibn Yusuf, and his sister, Aisha, on a high-stakes quest to reclaim their throne in Spain. The novel explores the internal conflict between idealism and survival, challenging the protagonist—and the reader—to define the line between duty and complicity.
