Description
Anne of Green Gables tells the heartwarming and classic coming-of-age story of Anne Shirley, a fiercely imaginative, fiercely independent, and talkative eleven-year-old orphan girl. By a complete misunderstanding, Anne is sent to live at the cozy white farmhouse known as Green Gables on Prince Edward Island with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, an elderly, unmarried brother and sister who had originally intended to adopt a sturdy young boy to help with their demanding farm chores.
Though initially dismayed by her fiery red hair and dramatic personality, the Cuthberts are quickly won over by Anne’s infectious charm, loyalty, and boundless capacity for love. As she grows up in the quiet rural community of Avonlea, Anne’s vivid fantasy world frequently lands her in humorous mishaps, from accidentally dyeing her hair green to inadvertently intoxicating her best friend, Diana Barry. Despite these minor disasters, her fierce academic rivalry with the handsome Gilbert Blythe and her brilliant academic achievements ultimately secure her place in the hearts of everyone she meets, transforming the quiet homestead forever.
